Comments
Jess Gardei launches her Estes Green Eggs which we call "Pepto Bismo" with a Quest C12-4FJ. Something goes wrong about .5 seconds into its .8 second burn. It sounded like it blew a nozzle. But upon recovering the rocket, I discovered this is not the case. The motor case was ejected from the rocket, but the forward bulkhead remained inside the rocket and rattled around. My guess what happened was at the .5 second mark the motor blew the case out of the rear of the rocket, leaving the liner and forward closure in the adapter in the motor tube. The remaining propellant continued to burn (thicker white smoke) and once that ran out the delay grain continued to burn and finally firing the ejection charge, which then ejected the liner through the now melted adapter, leaving the forward closure in the motor tube.
